I lost my mileages
My goodness! How can it be? I just checked up with CX about my recent collected mileages, and found 5,300 miles missing. They missed to update the miles I flied from L.A to Miami, and from Miami to L.A. They asked me to fill out the mileage missing form that I could claim it back but I need to present my boarding pass of both journeys. I obviously threw them away a month ago. They told me that they would update the mileage automatically through computer for every journey passengers took. This is how they always do it anyway, but they missed to update this time. I asked if it was caused by the journey I took not by CX. They said there is nothing related to American Airline, so those mileages should be updated by CX. They told me that very likely they would reject my mileage claim application because I don’t have boarding pass for it. LoL I was complaining, anyway I will see how it goes. I am so concerned of such stuff.
I figured it out that I can get a round trip ticket redeemed to Japan from last journey. I can redeem a round trip ticket to London from mileages accumulation of three round trips – H.K. – Miami and Miami – H.K. I guess I should have more mileages collected as I still have some short trips to go around Asia. I must keep myself flying with CX and its partnership airlines then I can have more mileages accumulated. Haha! It sounds like I am so calculating, but well….it’s just the way to be practical, and that’s how wealth can be accumulated. This is what I learn from some successful people who I met in my life.
General mileages cannot be used for business class upgrade anymore unless you buy regular economic class/business class all the time. Those mileages can be used for upgrade purpose. Class upgrade is not so important to me (but I would like to have it sometimes anyhow
), so I prefer to have free tickets redeemed to fly to somewhere else for holiday.
I really can’t help to think where else I can go though I am still going through my recovering process. I did have a dream when I was a little kid. I would love to get a job that gets me to fly all the time, but it must be with some sorts of achievement and objectives therefore, I haven’t seriously thought of becoming an aircrew. It seems that my new job will make my dream come true one day……..
This is the photo from the last trip flying from L.A. to Hong Kong…

I also was told by some airlines agents that if I forgot to claim my mileage during check-in, I must submit a claim with the boarding pass later. I consider this requirement a rip-off. Given today’s security procedures in the US, the airlines clearly have kept good records of whether I have boarded a plane. The airlines are taking advantage of those passengers who lose their boarding passes and use it as an excuse to deny their claims.
The fact is CX should update for me automatically for what I know. I bought my air ticket directly from CX. The sales told me that all my milages should be updated with computer upon completion of every trip I took. Therefore, I didn’t pay much concern about it. Now they told me different story. They said I should tell the check in counter when I was at the airport. You know nowaday people check in with a machine while you are at airports of the U.S. And those are AA counters, I don’t think they could do the update since I bought my ticket through CX, not AA.
Regarding your last point, many airlines co-operate as members of an alliance or a network so that they actually let you credit your mileage from one airlines to another. I just finished a trip to NZ with Air Pacific, and I could claim the mileage with American Airlines. The members of an alliance (e.g., the one with UA) may sometimes be able to transfer the credit at the check-in counter (but in my last NZ flight, I need to mail in my boarding pass to AA after the flight).
Also, your boarding pass may sometimes show the membership number of a mileage program. This is a sure sign that your flight mileage has already been claimed.
Oh all boarding passes of my whole trip didn’t show my Asia Miles membership number I am sure.
CX said I only need to contact them for any update in my case as I purchased everything from them.
