Victory of Ma Ying-jeou
It’s such an exciting news that Ma Ying-jeou became the new president of Taiwan. He won 58 percent of the vote. I can’t see he will make any closer steps toward the relationship between Taiwan and China in the near future, but definitely he is the one Chinese government is pleased to speak to. Chinese group travel plan is part of his proposals aiming to have more Chinese mainlanders visiting Taiwan in the near future. It does benefit the economy of Taiwan in short term. He is modern, open with logical thinking that met what Taiwan needs. He is the best choice of all of us. The relationship between Taiwan and Hong Kong can also be benefit. He was indeed funny by mentioning that Taiwan doesn’t only expect to have stable economy during his presidential announcement, and also expect that Ang Lee can win the Globe Award of Oscar next year.
Eight years nightmare with Chen Shui Bin is finally over I am sorry to say. Cheers!!

Believe it or not, some of my neighbors here in San Diego, who were born in Taiwan, returned to Taiwan recently to cast their votes for Ma. I don’t know much about the local politics of Taiwan, but I am impressed by Ma’s ability to draw support even from overseas.
Oh TT,
I tell you what. Most of the Taiwanese who live in the overseas, all went back for voting this time. Even though those who left Taiwan for 40 years, they also went back for election. This is the best timing for National Party and Ma. Taiwanese love their country. Election is essential for them. Moreover, the political situation is complicated in Taiwan. People who speak Taiwanese, they all support Chen Shu Bien, the previous president. The people who speak Mandarine, who followed Chiang Kai Shek to Taiwan from China after the second world war, they all support Ma, the National Party. They don’t take this as a split or anything in the society but comes to politic and election, they will all support their own people for their own goods. It’s sensible choice to vote for National Party, as they are much better relationship with China. Although, the split of National Party and the Communist has certain conflict in all these years, they all are from the same country to begin with.
I used to work in the area where Ma lives. His house is just right behind my office. I am an indeed supporter of Ma. Most of H.K people like him too. Most of people in H.K. are very happy with the result of election this time. He does give us good impression.
