Horse racing new year kit
My parents went to see horse racing with my uncle and cousin yesterday morning. They all won some money this year. My parents only like seeing horse racing on the first day of race during Chinese New Year. They said it will bring them good fortune in the following year. It’s true or not I don’t know, but the souvenirs they brought back is quite cute. One of the horse mobile straps is called Good Ba Ba, and one is called Scared Kingdom. No matter what they are called, they usually mean “good luck”, “good fortune” and “winning” in that sort of meanings, etc.

Shanghai and Hangzhou cuisine
We had a great Shanghai and Hangzhou cuisines with relatives tonight. Shanghai cuisine is always one of my favourite Chinese cuisines. Due to my family background, it is a particular one that me and my dad love the most. We do also cook it often at home. You can see from what I posted on my blog about our family dinners. However, some of these dishes are not easy to be homemade, so we need to visit restaurants from time to time.
Six of us had 20 dishes totally, but I only took 11 photos of it. The food was great, and unbelievable delicious. Yummy!! I indeed ate a lot during this Chinese New Year. It’s hard to stop eating under such cold weather. The cold of this year is unusual. It has been under 50F/8C in my area during the past one week. Food does keep me warm!

Flower market
We went to a small flower market this year, so the selection of flowers was very much limited. I managed to buy a big bunch of pink Lily. It’s beautiful.

New Year family dinner
We have our homemade abalone again today for Chinese New Year family dinner.

This is our traditional family made Shanghai hotpot, which we have every year. You can find lots of ingredients in it included scallops, sea shells, fish meat wrapped with fry eggs, glass noodles, bamboo shoot, Shanghainese dry meat, Chinese mushroom and Chinese cabbage. Delicious, isn’t it?

And our homemade barbecue sauce king pawn!!

Handmade love story
It’s such a lovely ring. I have never thought that ring can be handmade in this way, but it can be made! Here is the story on Etsy. It’s so sweet to get something handmade for your love ones. This is what I love to do. Things handmade represent a lot in lots of aspects. It is done with your soul, mind and heart. It’s not something that can be replaced by any purchase in stores. It’s all your own efforts for your special love one. You cook, you create, you design, you paint, you sew……what else? Many many…..ideas are never ending…and long lasting…^_^
