A cat called “China”
I read this news on Chinese newspaper this morning. A cat got inside the cargo container, and being shipped to the US from Shanghai. The whole journey took 35 days. This cat survived through these days without food and water. It is very amazing. We always say cats do have “nine lives” in Chinese. It means cats don’t die easily. It seems really true though. The vet said cats can live without food for 3 or 4 weeks, but can only live without water for few days. Surprisingly, this cat has very strong liver that it can survive without water for 35 days. The colleague of goods owner will adopt the cat once the cat has been released after body examination for 6 months in pet protection centre. This cat is already named “China” by its new master.

I wonder if there were insects or rats inside the cargo container because there is no way the cat survived 35 days without food and water. The cat would have dehydrated already. Thanks God it survived. This cat is a fighter.
The vet said cats can survive without food for many days. Anyway, anything can happen, right?
The cargo container could not have been airtight, otherwise he couldn’t breath. My bet is that he wiggled through a hole somewhere in the container, but he spent most of the trip wandering the ship and got food and water from various places on the ship. I don’t think any animal can survive 35 days without food or water. But he is a very industrious and lucky cat. BTW, Americans also say that cats have nine lives.
First time to learn that “cats have nine lives” in American way…
