Perfect?
I watched a family programme during lunch time. The presenter was discussing a topic related to today body slimming trend. The family education department of government reported the latest statistic that the 13 years old girls do complain themselves being over weight. Although, many of them are not fat, they do seriously think they are fat, and they need to be on diet. I am very surprise with this statistic. When I was 13, I had never thought of such problems though I am always thin. I do accept who I am. I had never heard from any of my friends who had such problems during our school period. How can be that fat as a 13 years old girl in HK? They are still children not exactly to the age of teenager. Eating healthy is necessary.
Their thought could be influenced by their parents, sisters, public media, and the non-stop promotion of those beauty companies. There are non-stop beauty and body slimming advertisements running every minute on Road Show of any public buses. Therefore, you can imagine how many people are watching it everyday. One day I was watching it while travelling by bus, there was an advertisement of a beauty company promoting their best price of body slimming. It said HKD2,999.00 for 7 days of slimming programme. They guarantee you will lose at least 10 pounds in 7 days with the support of real person interview on ads. Believe it or not? No, I don’t! First of all, I don’t believe in the medicine they suggest people taking to lose weight. I can’t see the good way of it. You may have side effects 1 year later though you maybe perfectly fine after taking it for few months. Who knows what happen next? I truly believe healthy diet plan will lead you to look the way you want to be together with sufficient support of exercises. You create your own look and image, not created by others what they think you should look. Those advertisements do always try to create the perfect image in woman’s mind and tell them that they should look like that; otherwise, they are considered overweight and ugly. Be honest, if all women who can have very beautiful faces with very slim figures as 36″, 19″ 33″, then all of them can become stars. I always say no one is perfect. Some people do look very beautiful, they may not have good hearts. Some people do not have beautiful faces, but they do have very good personality. All these can be true. I used to have a female friend who did have a thought of doing plastic surgery. After she told me her idea, I totally corrected her thought though she didn’t agree. As a woman, plastic surgery is kind of mean I do think so personally. Let say, you are not happy with your nose, and then you change it with a better one. So where is the original nose given by your parents? You were born with the features of your parents included noses, ears, mouths, hands and bodies etc. These all come from the nature of how we were born. When you complain about your bodies, it means you complain about your parents; as you are not happy with what they gave it to you. Even though, a woman got all these fixed, it doesn’t mean she is perfect. Perfect can be a very wide topic, not just outlook; personality and character do count.
Hope this body slimming trend will be over sooner or later, and then it will give no more influences to children. Children learn from adults, and their children will also learn from them. It’s a bad circulation, and never stops.

There is no way one can lose 10 pounds of body fat in one week. I suppose it’s possible to lose water weight with the use of diuretics, but I think losing even that much water weight in such a short time is dangerous. Anyway, the pounds will come right back in a few days once the dieter becomes rehydrated.
The problem is even worse in the US. Many kids today are genuinely obese due to a poor diet of junk food and lack of physical exercise. Anorexia is also a problem among young girls who have a warped concept of how thin they should be, based on media and peer pressure.
Anyway, I think you have the right idea about being proud of what your parents gave you.
Living in this era needs a lot of knowledge about the world and about ourselves, otherwise we will be forever overwhelmed by the new trends and lifestyles that incessantly tell us that we are missing out something essential. Many of us no longer value what we already have, no longer love ourselves as much, and no longer attend to our souls. We have lost the control of how we should live for ourselves.
Our desire to be loved and liked by others is basic and natural. The key is not letting the desire run amuck. I have watched many stories on Discovery Health Channel about plastic surgeries. Many men and women who opt for plastic surgery are already beautiful and handsome; they just have not learned to love themselves without a mirror. They’ve overlooked many inner qualities that could have made them more lovable. Behind those beautiful faces and bodies are prisoners of their own ego and insecurity. They soon will find another reason to be unhappy.
To regain control, we don’t need to be anti-social or anti-materialistic. We only need to strike a balance between the material world and inner world, and between the need for external reinforcement and self-reinforcement. Both world-knowledge and self-knowledge are very important for us to shape our communities as well as to be shaped.
Yesterday I came across something related to this topic. I have put it under this link. I will take it down in a week.
Jumpcut:
10 pounds are definitely too much to lose, and being dangerous in a week but you know many women would love to do such things. L0L
