Broadband To go

Broadband To go! I like the idea. It’s a mobile broadband service. It’s cool though is quite expensive service. You can get online with fast speeds up to 3.6Mbps anytime, anywhere, even on the beach! :P I guess the overseas roaming service charge is very high as once your wireless connection gets hooked up, you may attach with any telecom company service providers. Well, wireless connection is common in anywhere so this may not be necessary, unless for those who really need to work anytime in anywhere then they can still get on the net regardless they are in a wireless area or not.

Although, the wireless connection service is common in most of places, I did also experience inconvenience service when I was in Taiwan last month. When I wanted to use the wireless service in a local Starbuck, I needed to join their membership by paying monthly fee at NTD500.00. It’s not much, but I guess it’s also not so convenient to a traveller as you need to purchase a monthly ticket and actually to use it for few days. The Broadband To Go service should help with this problem if those service providers don’t restrict your own connection. (as it might do against people using their own connection without joining the local membership)
Anyway, I won’t get it, as it’s not something necessary. :) The modem looks so cool though!!

I like that TV commercial on the getmoving website. Much more artistic and entertaining than ads in the US.

I have been intrigued by how expensive wireless data service is in Hong Kong (although wireless phone service in Hong Kong is very cheap). As I understand, broadband service in Hong Kong is charged by usage in chunks of megabytes. In the US, broadband wireless data service, delievered via a PCMCIA card, is about $60 per month, unlimited and nationwide. I know some single people who actually don’t subscribe boardband at home. They just subscribe a broadband wireless service, plug in the data card into their laptops, and go online inside and outside their homes.

My wife and I pay about $80 for a plan that allows us to share 2000 minutes every month calling anywhere in the US. The plan also allows us to use our PDA phones to go online, unlimited and at no additional charge, at a speed of about 120 kbps (good enough for email but not for google map; I often read and comment on your blog using my PDA phone). Since our PDA phones have bluetooth that can connect to a laptop, I also use the phone as a wireless modem while traveling.

I love the TV Commercial too! :) so much in motion. It does attract me to look at their service.

Hi TT! Wow you really well use of the internet service! I guess we can’t have that in HK. In fact, there are not many people using wireless in public areas of HK especially with laptop. It’s not about if it is popular or not, just the life habit I think. However, people like using Blackberry in here when they need going on net outdoor. Many have Blackberry though.
